When it comes to car auction sites, I have found that you can find what you're looking for at a great price if you do the research first, stick to your numbers and above all be patient for the right deal. To do this, it's best to stick to the 4 top sites that are far superior to the rest in my opinion. They have more auctions, more vehicles and better support. They operate honestly and if you browse these sites consistently, and if you remain patient, your car should become available at the right price within a few weeks, whether you're looking for a Hummer, Honda or Harley - it's out there, take my word for it.
The biggest rule to remember when it comes to these auction sites, and auctions in general: Go in with a plan. Do the research. The car value sites like Edmunds and especially Kelley Blue Book are particularly useful. Know your models and know how mileage, condition and options effect value. Then stick with what you know. Don't bid outside your knowledgebase just because a great looking car seems like a good deal. If you've done the research on a Honda Accord, don't haphazardly bid on a Lexus, just because it seems like a good deal. You want to know it's a good deal. Do a little research and your confidence and proficiency will lead you to better buys and wiser bids.
When you've determined a fair value for the vehicle you want, take that information and see if similar cars have sold for that price at one of the sites below. This sanity check will tell you if you have made sound decisions about the price you want to pay. This can often translate into 60% to 70% off blue book value. Then, if necessary, adjust and set a goal price for your search and stick to it. Stick to your goals as long as they are reasonable. There is no reason to sway from your research. Don't overbid and don't chase auctions.

This site simply has a ton of seized vehicles for auction in lots of different areas around the country. Its selection is huge. You will usually find more than one selection available for any model that your interested in. I found more than 15 different BMW's for sale at one auction. The pricing structure is simple - you pay once and that's it. No recurring billing or any other tricks. You can get unlimited access - that's access FOREVER, not just one year - for less than $30. It's one of the best values out there for seized vehicle auctions.
The inventory is constantly changing at this site. There are repo auctions, government auctions and IRS auctions. The savings often approach 90% below retail. The database inventory is updated daily. Their boat and motorcycle sections are a bit weak, but their car and truck selection is outstanding.
Many cars, especially the seized vehicles, have very low mileage and most provide proof of clean title, from what I have seen. I've found that final auction prices at this site tend to stay very low because there are simply so many seized vehicles at auction. The volume here is key. Remember, if the one you're watching has too many bids, there is always another similar car to bid on.

The interface at this site is very smooth, it's easy to navigate and it backs up its claims with thousands of real-live auctions every week. This site gives you the opportunity to bid online or in person. It supplies the knowledge and the information you need to dive into the car auction world and get yourself a superb car for dimes on the dollar.
The best thing about this site is that it lets you view auctions that have ended recently so you're able to see what the car you want usually sells for before you even sign up. This site is also great because you can see how many live auctions are going on in your state this week and how many online auctions are going on in your state right now.
Having past auction data is one of the best tools you can have and this site gives it to you from the get-go. This helps you determine good price points and what you can expect to pay for the model that you are looking for. Savings with this auction site are typically 70% off of retail, but can get higher than that.
This site clearly has a pipeline to some of the largest government auctions around the country. Almost every auction by federal, state, county and city governments is included in this site's database.

Overview:
This site is a little uncomforting for me because many of the cars available have been reposessed from people that fell on hard times. But I suppose you have to look at it as their loss and your gain. The prices are sometimes very low and it is not unusual to end up with a very cheap, reliable vehicle.
This site has great contacts with repossession companies that work for banks, car dealers and insurance agencies. The repo firms go out, find the car and retrieve it for the bank. The bank isn't in the business of selling used cars so they allow the repo companies to auction them off quickly so the banks can get these vehicles off their books.
If you're okay with this whole concept of reposession then this site is awesome. It doesn't quite have the breadth of selection that Car-Auction.com has, but it's prices can be even lower in some cases. My brother-in-law was able to find a mint Mustang on this site for about 20% of retail price. Good deals abound and auctions are in most urban areas in the U.S.

Overview:
This site is fabulous for repossessed car auctions and government-run auctions. It's also great, however, for its real estate, boat and tax-seized property. It's kind of a one-stop shop for all bargains related to government auctions. I have been able to find a suprising number of homes in my area on this site -- all of them selling for 50% or less of their market values. It's quite a resource.
The cool thing about this site is that you get access to all of these different government databases: real estate, cars, jewelry, boats, computers and electronics. There is literally thousands and thousands of items sitting in government possesssion that you can get CHEAP.
If you're interested in making a profit on these types of items, this is the site for you. When you join, you get access to all of their great databases of 2,000 federal, state and local government agency auctions in your state - and hundreds more that are designed just for the Internet!
